A Tennessee man has been arrested after shooting his family in the snow, deputies said
A Tennessee man is facing charges after he allegedly opened fire on a skiing family, claiming the family was on his property.
Benjamin Cook faces six counts of aggravated assault in connection with the shooting, according to the County Sheriff’s Office. Additional charges may be filed pending the outcome of the investigation.
The sheriff’s office said deputies responded to the 6300 block of Stoney River Drive on Friday following a report that a man was shooting at a family of six playing outside in the snow.

Initial information from the scene indicated that the parents and their four children were walking down the road to go hiking in their neighborhood, deputies said.
But around 11:30 a.m., the family said they heard gunshots coming from a house down the hill near the 10400 block of Birchwood Pike. The mother said she saw snow flying from the ground a few meters away from her one-year-old son.
The parents immediately looked in the direction of the gunshots and shouted to the man, later identified as Cook, to stop shooting. The accused said that the family was in his place, but the family replied that they were not in his place.

The family then collected their belongings and went home before reporting the incident to the law enforcement.
Deputies responded to the shooter’s home and spoke with Cook. They also received photos from a neighbor showing Cook wearing the same clothes walking through the woods with a black handgun slung over his back.
Cook was then arrested on assault charges.

A search warrant was executed at Cook’s home, where several firearms were found inside.
