Holmes, 47, and Robach, 51, who previously worked with Muir at ABC, offered their thoughts on the incident on the Friday, January 10 episode of their podcast, “Does This Make Me Look Fat?”
Muir, 51, was outraged when viewers saw a clothes pin unbuttoning his jacket during a live show on Wednesday, January 8 and accused him of caring more about his appearance on TV than the natural disaster he was reporting on.
Holmes defended Muir in that case, saying the news anchor may not even have known about the deputies.

“The idea might not be there if you just read the tweets. The idea may not be there, many times – and I don’t know if you do – traveling with a producer or even a wardrobe person whose job it is – you may be looking at your phone, getting the latest, looking at notes or doing something, and people are pulling and connecting things to you, the microphone and the IFB [in-ear monitor] and all these things,” explained Holmes. “You don’t even know what’s happening to you, and someone could decide, ‘Let me do this with the coat.’ We don’t know.”
Holmes said that despite using clothespins, he believes Muir is working incredibly hard.
He continued: “But just a small context, this boy is fixing his hips. You don’t like what he did, that’s fine. It’s just a lot to pile on.”
However, Holmes admitted that it was a bad look for a TV reporter to be caught worrying about trivial things while reporting on an event where people lost their lives and homes.

ABC“The idea that people – even in the middle of a crisis – are going to stop a great evening host will not give an idea of what they look like. Now the issue is how much they should care and how much they should come out as if they care is a different story, but then he should take care and pay attention to the way he looks before going on television,” said Holmes. “But if your house is on fire and you see a young man over there with a mirror brushing his hair and doing all this before going on the air to report on your tragedy, that will upset you.”
Meanwhile, Robach admitted that when reporting on the street, he often made a concerted effort not to look “attractive” for this reason by keeping his hair down and keeping it simple.
The wildfire collection designed by David Muir was apparently temporary. “I was very careful as a journalist not to look like I was worried about how I looked at that time,” she said. “We all look different in the area of such disasters than in the group. On set, we have hair and makeup and beautiful suits and well-fitted clothes, but when you’re out there, it’s a very different place.”
Robach also defended Muir from the intense attacks he’s been receiving and said he doesn’t believe he deserves it.
“I don’t think he deserves the hate he’s getting… I don’t think that’s fair or appropriate in any way — and especially for people who haven’t had to be on television every day where your image, your appearance is always there. to be criticized or approved in order to have a thorough knowledge of that,” he said.
