Trump will be sentenced in a criminal trial in New York
President-elect Trump is expected to be sentenced Friday after being found guilty on charges of falsifying business records stemming from a years-long investigation by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg.
The president-elect is expected to attend his sentencing soon, after fighting to block the program all the way to the United States Supreme Court this week.
Judge Juan Merchan set Trump’s Jan. 10—just ten days before he was sworn in as the 47th President of the United States.

However, Merchan said that he will not sentence the president-elect to prison.
Merchan wrote in his decision that he would likely not “impose any prison sentence,” but rather a sentence of “unconditional release,” meaning no punishment would be imposed.
Trump filed a motion to block the sentence from moving forward with the New York State Court of Appeals. That court rejected his request.
Trump also filed an emergency petition with the US Supreme Court, saying “it issued an order to stay the proceedings in the Supreme Court of New York County, New York, pending the final decision of President Trump’s decision raising questions of the President’s immunity. , including this Court if necessary.”
“The court should also enter, if necessary, a temporary stay while considering this residency application,” Trump’s filing asks.

Trump’s attorneys also said New York prosecutors wrongly admitted much of the evidence related to the president’s official actions during the trial, ignoring a high court ruling on presidential immunity.
The Supreme Court, earlier this year, ruled that presidents are immune from prosecution related to the president’s official actions.
But New York prosecutors have argued that the high court has “no jurisdiction” over the case.
They also said that the evidence he presented in the case last year involved “unlawful conduct that is not subject to immunity.”

Trump has been charged with 34 counts of falsifying business records in the first degree. He denied those charges. After a six-week, unprecedented trial between a former president and a presidential candidate, a New York jury found the president-elect guilty on all counts.
Trump has maintained his innocence in the case and repeatedly criticized it as an example of “law enforcement” promoted by Democrats in an attempt to damage his election efforts before November.
