Trump says a meeting with Putin is being arranged

Donald Trump said a meeting is being planned between him and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

The US president-elect did not give a time when the meeting would take place.

“He wants to meet and we’re working it out,” he said in a statement at his Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida.

The Kremlin said in its response that negotiations have been opened, but the details have not been confirmed.

Trump has promised to negotiate an end to the war in Ukraine soon after taking office on January 20 and has expressed doubts about US military and financial support for Kyiv.

“President Putin wants to meet,” he said on Thursday.

“He’s said that publicly and we have to end that war. Blood full of blood.”

Trump has appointed Keith Kellogg, a former national security adviser and retired US Army lieutenant general, to be his special envoy to Ukraine and Russia in his second administration.

Kellogg laid out his ideas on how the US could end the war by research paper published by the America First Policy Institutepro-Trump thinks thank you, April of last year.

He suggested that Ukraine should receive more US aid only if it agrees to participate in peace talks with Moscow.

The paper also suggested that, if Moscow refused to participate, the US should continue to help Ukraine.

Following Trump’s election victory in November, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said he believed that with Trump as president, the war would “end sooner” than it would have ended.

He said the two had a “constructive exchange” over the phone, though he did not say whether Trump had any demands on possible talks with Russia.
