Tennis Pro Frances Tiafoe Recalls ‘Taking Shots’ With Taylor Swift
A tennis phenom Frances Tiafoe he’s still surprised every time he rubs elbows with big names in Hollywood.
“I always say it in real time [to] whoever I’m with, like, ‘I’m shooting with him Taylor Swift,”’ Tiafoe, 26, said on the Tuesday, January 7, episode of “The Pivot” podcast. “It’s true, I … a Beyoncé boy, but at this point, I was like, ‘Man, this is crazy.’

“He’s the biggest star here and, you know, Trav as well [Patrick] Mahomes [are] like, ‘Yeah, we should have you in KC.’ They said that to me and they rolled out the red carpet for me,” Tiafoe recalled. “It’s crazy because playing tennis and people want to go out and share and do things. Those are the things [that] why do you do what you do.”
Tiafoe started playing tennis at the age of 3, peaking in 2015 when he turned 17. He won his first ATP title at the 2018 Delray Beach tournament, becoming the youngest American player ever since. “That’s who I am and what I stand for, as people related to you,” he said in an episode of “The Pivot”. “Like, many people can see themselves in you [and] the energy I play with, the smile I have and I’m just a normal person. Man, I’m from Maryland who loves tennis.”
Tiafoe explained that he “has a lot of hobbies besides hitting the tennis ball.”
“You can feel that,” he continued. “I am who I am in every room. I’m not trying to dress someone else up and people feel that way. “
As his career began, Tiafoe only saw the extent of his fame when he “hit [Rafael] Nadal” at the 2022 US Open.
“I went into something different,” he added. “I went to the hotel that day, and the hotel was packed. Everyone [was] I was waiting … than when I entered the hotel that day, see [were] like, ‘Oh, you’re here to watch the US Open?’ … It’s amazing how things can change.”
