Four-time Warriors star Draymond Green shared his thoughts on Jimmy Butler’s situation in Miami.
In LeBron James fashion, Green says he saw Butler and the Heat from a mile away.
“I think they’re at the end of their rope,” Green said on the Draymond Green Show. “Actually, I’ve been hearing for the past few years that they were tired of Jimmy, Jimmy was tired of them. I think Jimmy was very kind so he was just enjoying living in Miami. I’m not one of those news people who make up stories. I don’t mean ‘happy living in Miami’ like Jimmy’s party, Jimmy don’t go out. So I’m not saying that, but living in Miami is a good thing. And so I think he’s really enjoying his life and what comes with being the face of the Miami Heat.
“Also, Jimmy is a very serious person, he takes his craft very seriously, he works his ass off. So I don’t want this to come across the wrong way. I think he had a good thing going to the NBA Finals, he’s a Miami guy, and I think all those things made what he was going through bearable. That’s what I’m trying to find. And I think it’s gotten to a point now where you’re like, ‘What do I have left, another three years, maybe? I’ll be living in Miami for the rest of my life after three years anyway.’ So I think you’re starting to get to that point, where I think Jimmy also – Jimmy is as competitive as they come – wants to win a championship. “
Draymond went on to explain how he sees this proverb in two different ways.
“What I believe the result will be, everybody’s like ‘Jimmy goes here, Jimmy goes there’ … I think Pat Riley is Pat Riley, you’ve all heard the stories about who Pat Riley is and what Pat Riley is like, just. like I have,” said Green. “I see two things happening: I see Pat Riley sending Jimmy Butler to a team, an organization he absolutely hates, that’s garbage. I can also see Pat Riley saying, ‘Hey, go home for the rest of the year. Just go home, we’ll pay you. Okay, go home. We don’t trade anywhere.’ And I see that situation.
“But I don’t see this situation, I don’t see that Jimmy is back to being good with them and Jimmy being Jimmy. I don’t see that, I think it’s too late. When things start to get to the media, when things start to become public, they are no longer in your control. It’s completely taken over by public opinion, and it’s just hard to make it work. I think they have reached the end of the road.”
