Tom McKibbin has rubbished reports linking him with a move to LIV Golf

ABU DHABI, United Arab Emirates — Tom McKibbin may be heading to LIV Golf, just weeks after receiving his card to play on the PGA Tour.

Asked on Wednesday about a move to the Saudi-backed circuit, the 22-year-old Northern Irish golfer told Gold Digest Middle East: “I’m not going to comment this week.”

McKibbin, ranked No. 110, was speaking as he prepared to play in the Team Cup, an unofficial event to prepare prospective European players for the Ryder Cup in September at Bethpage Black.

McKibbin will be playing for Great Britain and Ireland, captained by Justin Rose, against Continental European players under the supervision of European Ryder Cup captain Luke Donald.

McKibbin said he did not want to comment on the LIV reports “out of respect for Luke and Justin and the tournament.”

“It’s a team event,” he said, “so I try to give my best to the team and see how many points I can get.”

McKibbin’s potential move to LIV was first reported by Spanish website TenGolf.

He grew up playing at the same club – Holywood Golf Club – as his partner Rory McIlroy.

McKibbin was approached by McIlroy after hearing he had earned his PGA Tour card – courtesy of points earned during the European Tour season – after the World Tour Championship in Dubai in November.
