Ontario Premier Doug Ford said Canada is “not for sale” amid several comments from President-elect Donald Trump about the country possibly becoming part of the United States.
“I love the US, I love the American people, and I get it. You know, President-elect Trump is a real estate tycoon. He’s made billions. But that property is not for sale, it’s as simple as that,” Ford said Tuesday on “Jesse. Watters Primetime.”
Trump joked that Canada is becoming the “51st state,” and at a Mar-a-Lago news conference Tuesday afternoon, he reiterated his clear vision of seeing the country controlled by the US.

“Canada and the United States, that would be something,” Trump said. “You’re removing that line that’s not drawn, and you’re looking at what that looks like, and it would be much better for national security.”

Ford insists that Canada and the US can come together on a “big trade deal” and work together to solve the China “problem”.

“China is a problem. China sends cheap parts to Mexico, then Mexico slaps a ‘made in Mexico’ sticker, sends them to the US and Canada, costing American and Canadian jobs,” he said.
“We are proud Canadians, just like there are proud Americans. And if we come together and take over the world with a big trade deal between us, I think that would be great. Nobody can stop us.”
Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, who announced his resignation earlier this week, also responded to the incoming 47th president with his speech, saying “there is not a chance in hell” that his country would become part of the US.
