Westerns were once the most dominant genre in Hollywood, flourishing in the 50s and 60s, before slowly falling out of favor despite a few highlights in the last few decades, but there have been few highlights, and above all, one man has worked. tirelessly bringing the brand back to prominence. Kevin Costner, star and director of Dances with wolvesstar of Hatfields & McCoysand the modern Western star Yellowstone, finally brought his passion project, Horizon: An American Sagaa four-part film series that sought to redefine Westerns in theaters. The problem is that the first film was so badly bombed that the release of the sequel was postponed indefinitely, but there is still hope, as The horizon it’s now a huge hit on Netflix.
A Good Start
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 was released on Netflix at the beginning of January and, since then, it has been in the top 10 of the streamers. The first part of the epic saga includes many characters, some of whom we do not even see at the end of the theater. Chapter 2, in many news stories that are yet to cross. Chapter 1 it’s not a perfect movie, with no stories that reach anything like a conclusion, but what it is is a brave experiment in bringing television design to movies.
The film begins with an Apache attack on the new Horizon, which serves as the backdrop for the first two stories, which follow some survivors taking refuge in a military camp and others seeking revenge. At the same time, in an underdeveloped storyline, a wagon train is on its way to Horizon when the Apaches are mentioned, and the threat of an impending attack hangs over the inhabitants. But another story follows a young woman on the run from her abusers, and Costner, as the mysterious Hayes Ellison, finds himself trapped when he falls for Marigold, a woman of the night.
All the storylines show the possibility, along with several characters, including Jena Malone’s Ellen and one of her followers, Caleb Sykes, played by Jamie Campbell Bower (who you know as Stranger Things Vecna), stand out among the crowd. There are some standout moments, including some tense, well-shot shots that prove Costner knows what he’s doing behind the camera, but for the most part, Horizon: An American Saga- Chapter 1 there’s so much going on, it’s easy to miss the details, which is probably why it’s starting on Netflix.
We Will Not See The Whole Saga

Given the success of the first film on Netflix, there may be a future for the series, which still has three more films, on the broadcast network instead of in theaters.
Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1 was released on Max last fall, but the Warner Bros. streaming service doesn’t have Netflix’s lead, and it’s likely that more people will watch.d movie last week than the last few months combined. It would make sense for a streaming service to pick up the franchise, especially since Kevin Costner financed the production himself, motivated to bring his passion project to life after working hard on it for decades. Netflix needs content, and after spending hundreds of millions on Zach Snyder’s Rebellion MonthCostner’s Western epic may be scored for what a broadcaster would consider a zoom error.
By now, if you haven’t seen it Horizon: An American Saga – Chapter 1it’s still worth checking out on Netflix, if for no other reason than to see Kevin Costner pour his heart out on screen for three hours. At least since we’re broadcasting, you can stop and take a bathroom break. And if enough people stream, one day we might see the rest of the epic.
