Sheriff’s deputies in Missouri said they responded in a “banana situation” on Monday when they responded to a report about a “monkey around.”
In an unusual police stop, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said they found a spider monkey wearing a pink tutu near Route 21 and Highway M in eastern Missouri. Spider monkeys are often found in the tropical forests of Central and South America.
In a simple post on X, the Jefferson County Sheriff’s Office said units that first responded found the subject “nude except for what appeared to be a tutu.”
“After careful negotiations, deputies were able to get close enough to ‘hold hands’ with the subject and bring the banana situation under control without incident,” the law enforcement agency wrote.

Officials say an outdoor monkey was living in a nearby house when it was able to open the door and get outside.

“With all this, this is a good example of police officers who do not know what they will face on any call and must be ready to face whatever the task gives them,” the document continued.
“Deputies surrounded the animal and eventually returned it to its caretaker. Great job by everyone involved. What a day at #JeffCo.”
A permit is required to own a spider monkey in Missouri.

The news comes days after a spider monkey wearing a onesie was found by police in California.
A California Highway Patrol officer stopped a 2022 Rolls-Royce Ghost in Madera County last week for speeding on Highway 99 and found this monkey in the car.
Meanwhile, in November, 43 rhesus macaque monkeys escaped from an experimental facility in South Carolina. Most of them were arrested again.
