UK PM Starmer hits back at Musk’s attack on childcare groups: ‘Lies and misinformation’
UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer on Monday hit back at his handling of the gang scandal that has rocked the country repeatedly, and has seen increased scrutiny in the past week fueled by SpaceX CEO Elon Musk.
“Those who spread lies and misinformation as far as possible, they don’t care about the victims, they care about them,” Starmer said in response to reporters’ questions about Musk’s comments, though he did not mention Musk specifically. .
The grooming scandal in the UK, where it was revealed that mainly South Asian or British Pakistani gangs have been exploiting and abusing children for decades in northern English towns, resurfaced last week amid fresh calls for a national inquiry.

Previous reports in towns such as Rotherham and Telford found evidence of horrific crimes against children over the decades and that authorities had suppressed the information or had concerns about extreme discrimination. It is often cited as the failure of multiculturalism and the impact of mass migration.
Musk criticized the government for rejecting calls for a new national inquiry into the handling of the Oldham authorities. Home Office Minister Jess Phillips responded to the request in October, saying that any such investigation should be organized locally.
A 2022 report on Oldham’s actions between 2011 and 2014 found that children had been failed by local agencies, but also found that there was no cover-up despite “legitimate concerns” that the far-right would use “higher sentences especially for Pakistani criminals across the country.”
Musk, along with Conservative Party chief Kemi Badenoch, called for a full investigation. Musk went further, calling on King Charles III to intervene.
“They are against the investigation, because it will show that those in charge were involved in the cover-up,” he said of the government in X.
Musk called for the prosecution of Starmer, who was director of public prosecutions when the scandal broke, and Phillips – whom he called a “rape apologist.”

Starmer echoed those comments in his response, as he defended his record as a prosecutor, saying he had reopened closed cases and “changed the whole way of prosecuting” abuse.
“When the venom of the right leads to serious threats against Jess Phillips and others, then in my book, the line is crossed,” Starmer said. “I enjoy cutting and focusing on politics, the strong debate we should have, but that should be based on facts and truth, not lies.”

He also criticized the politicians who he said “don’t care about honesty, dignity, truth and the law, they want to be investigated because they want to jump into the chaos of the opposition party.”
Musk shot back.

“What a crazy thing to say! The real reason is that it would show that Starmer repeatedly ignored the requests of a large number of young girls and their parents, in order to get political support. Starmer is completely despicable,” he said.
