Scottie Scheffler’s first PGA Tour season of 2025 will have to wait.

The world No. 1 announced on Monday on Instagram that she is withdrawing from next week’s American Express to continue rehabbing a scary hand injury she suffered while preparing for Christmas dinner.

“After consulting with my medical team, I have made the decision to withdraw from next week’s American Express Tournament to give my injury more time to heal,” Scheffler wrote. “I still hope to start my 2025 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-am.”

Scheffler was stabbed in his right hand while preparing Christmas dinner. An injury forced him to withdraw from the season opener at Sentry, which Hideki Matsuyama won at the weekend with a historic score.

Scheffler’s manager, Blake Smith, said last month that Scheffler’s expected recovery time is three to four weeks. That goes along with The American Express which will be played January 16-19 in La Quinta, Calif.

“On Christmas Day while preparing dinner, Scottie sustained a puncture wound in his right palm from broken glass,” Smith said in a statement on December 27. “Small shards of glass were left in the palm which required surgery. He was told he should be back to 100% in three to four weeks. Unfortunately , will have to withdraw from The Sentry. His next scheduled tournament is American Express.”

Scheffler is coming off a season in which he won seven times on the PGA Tour and nine times around the world, including a win at the Masters and an Olympic gold medal.

The 28-year-old also joined Tiger Woods as the only players to win the PGA Tour Player of the Year award in three consecutive seasons and finished second to Woods in the PGA Tour’s final Player Impact Program.

Scheffler now hopes to make his season debut at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am on Jan. 30-Feb. 2. Scheffler finished tied for sixth in this event last season. It will be the second signature event of the 2025 schedule.
