Sci-Fi Prequel Rejected at the Box Office Is a Netflix Hit

Roaring into theaters nearly a decade after the last film in the franchise, Furiosa: The Mad Max Saga it was one of the most disappointing releases of the year, in box office terms at least. Those who saw it on the big screen knew it was a wild ride that dared to do something different with the post-apocalyptic franchise, so iconic that it defined every genre for decades. Now that Furiosa is available on Netflix, finally getting the audience it deserved in the first place.
The rise of Furiosa
Set the age in advance Fury Road, Furiosa is the origin story of Charlize Theron’s character, and thanks to both films now live on Netflix, you can switch between them and enjoy a fun five-hour ride. The prequel does away with Max himself entirely, except for a brief cameo, and instead focuses on Furiosa’s childhood and her rise as Joe’s Immortal Ruler. By gradually shifting focus, fans also get their best look at how society has deteriorated in the post-apocalypse with reminders that life is now short, cruel, and incredibly violent.
Dementus, played by Chris Hemsworth, the leader of the Biker Horde, personifies the norm of the post-apocalyptic society as he is ruthless, brutal, and driven by the violent death of his family. That’s why they both kill Furiosa’s mother and take the little girl under their wing as a married daughter. This is Furiosa’s place slow motion may be more appreciated on Netflix now that viewers are finally seeing Hemsworth’s performance, one of his best works, instead of reading about it in social media memes.
Midway through the film, we finally see Anya Taylor-Joy as a grown-up Furiosa, learning how she survived Dementus’s first team and Immorten Joe’s castle before finally leaving. Furiosaas a prequel, it leans heavily on further explanation Fury Road than fans have ever expected, from the obvious, like how he loses his arm, to the subtle, like what Joe’s lieutenants were doing before the events of Tom Hardy’s film.
