As a middle-aged man surrounded by tiny plastic soldiers, I have been waiting decades for Hollywood to give us a proper GI Joe movie. Sure, we have two movies with big names like Channing Tatum and Dwayne Johnson, but from the weird rocket boots to the strange origin of the Baroness, those movies never felt like they got this weird sci-fi/military scene right. Fortunately, Snake Eyes: GI Joe Origin finally gave me most (though not all) of what I wanted in such a film, and now you can stream this ninja adventure on Netflix.
Snake Eyes For Fans New And Old
While Snake-eyes streaming on Netflix, the film focuses on the titular character who was winning over intellectuals in the ’80s, decades before the advent of streaming (heck, even VHS felt futuristic back then). Snake Eyes is a young man who is hired to learn the ways of an ancient ninja group. However, drama within and drama without threatening his newly found family, as does the arrival of forces from two well-known organizations: GI Joe and Cobra.
Anyone listening Snake-eyes on Netflix can look forward to a strong cast, albeit without many big names. Our title character is played by Henry Golding, a man who is best known for his performances in casting The rich of Asia. Andrew Koji (best known for the Cinemax show Hero) plays the ninja’s brother, and Samara Weaving (best known Right or wrong again Akimbo guns) plays the Baroness, everyone’s favorite bad girl.
Snake-eyes is gaining new fans on Netflix, but when it was first released, it was a box office bomb, earning only $40.1 million against a budget of $88-110 million. Critics didn’t like it, and the film currently has a 35 percent rating on Rotten Tomatoes. That brings us to a very obvious question that even the Blind Master of the Arashikagi Clan could see coming: why am I recommending you broadcast a box office failure that you’ve received completely. violent critics?
Time to Release
First, the release of Snake-eyes on Netflix has helped many people discover what I discovered: that is, this is a strong action film with some moments of greatness. It quickly became a hit on the streaming service, becoming Netflix’s fourth most-streamed movie shortly after it was added. And while Rotten Tomatoes shows how much critics hate this ninja misfit, Popcornmeter’s audience rating is 74 percent, indicating that most of those who watched the movie liked what they saw.
Additionally, those watching Snake-eyes on Netflix you will get a deep dive into the franchise’s most popular character. Part of why the previous GI Joe films were such a mess was that they had to successfully introduce two antagonistic characters. again they delivered a compelling story, and arguably failed on both fronts. Snake-eyes it has some strong characters built around only a handful of characters, and everyone gets to shine a lot more when they’re not crowded out by an already crowded ensemble.
And, even if you’re not a huge GI Joe fan, you can enjoy this movie for what it is: a fun and light-hearted action movie. Your grade may vary, but I spent away most of the time over the years he’s watched bad kung-fu movies in the wee hours of fighting…er, at night. Snake-eyes it’s not the best, but it’s better than most, and it offers a great way to scratch that late night itch with some hot martial arts action.
Now, if you there is another GI Joe fan deciding whether or not to stream Snake-eyes on Netflix, here’s a warning: the movie plays fast and loose with our titular character’s book and the comics he’s from. The biggest change is that Snake Eyes is now Japanese. In the original comics written by Larry Hama, this character was a White Army soldier who became close to another soldier named Tommy. This soldier was Japanese and later invited Snake Eyes to come to Japan and learn the ways of the ninja.
If you’re not too precious about franchise canon, it’s easy enough to enjoy Snake-eyes on Netflix. Are you going to enjoy all the karate madness like I did or is the one movie you’d like to see dismantled is The MASS Device? You won’t know until you stream it, but we’re sure you’ll be yelling “Yo Joe!” during the credits roll.
