Golden Globes hosts Nikki Glaser celebs can do anything but ‘tell people who to vote for’
Golden Globes host Nikki Glaser opened the night by teasing celebrities about their past endorsements that proved ineffective.
When the awards show began on Sunday night, Glaser began by praising the celebrities, but quickly changed to grilling them.
“I’m not here to grill you tonight. I want you to know that. How could I, really? You’re all so famous, so talented, so powerful. I mean, you can do anything really… even without telling the country who to vote for,” said Glaser.
As the crowd laughed, he followed up with, “But it’s okay! You’ll get them next time! If there is one. I’m afraid.”
DEM REP. TORCHES HARRIS CAMPAIGN FOR CELEBRITY ENDORSEMENT: ‘NOBODY CARES’
Several of Hollywood’s biggest celebrities, including Oprah Winfrey, George Clooney, Julia Roberts, Anne Hathaway, Alec Baldwin, Leonardo DiCaprio and Golden Globe nominee Harrison Ford, have come out in support of Vice President Kamala Harris ahead of the presidential election.
Despite their endorsement, Harris was defeated by President-elect Donald Trump, losing seven states and the popular vote. Harris also failed to investigate any districts that voted for Trump in 2020.
After being announced as the show’s host in August, Glaser wrote a statement expressing his delight in mocking celebrities, citing controversial former host Ricky Gervais as the host.
“I’m so excited to host the Golden Globes,” Glaser wrote in a statement reported by The Hollywood Reporter. “It’s one of my favorite nights on television and now I get a front row seat (actually, I think I should be hosting on stage). The Golden Globes is not just a night of TV and film but also comedy. One of the few times show business not only allows itself to be laughed at but encourages itself to be laughed at.” with love (at least I hope so.) An exciting gig, but challenging because it’s live, unexpected and in front of the biggest Hollywood stars (possibly wasted while sitting next to their latest students).”

“Some of my favorite jokes of all time came from the Golden Globes opening monologues when Tina [Fey]Ami [Poehler] or Ricky [Gervais] we’re saying exactly what we all knew we needed to hear the most,” he added. “I hope to continue that long-honored tradition (which may lead to my cancellation). This is truly a dream job. Plus, I no longer have to feel guilty about all the TV shows and movies I’ve binged on in the past year. It was all worth it. (Below Deck: The Sailing Yacht Season Four is going to be nominated, right?).”
