Detroit Lions LB Alex Anzalone Shares Gnarly Photo Of Broken Arm
Before returning to work on Sunday, January 5, the star of the Detroit Lions Alex Anzalone he showed the harrowing journey it took to get there.
Hours before the team Sunday Night Football clash with the Minnesota Vikings at Detroit’s Ford Field, Anzalone, 30, posted a photo on Instagram Story of his broken arm after surgery.
“Everybody wants to be a dog, until you have to do dog s—,” Anzalone wrote alongside a photo of his stitched up left arm.
Anzalone broke his left forearm after colliding with his teammate Brian Branch‘helmet for the Lions’ November 17 game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
According to the Detroit Free PressAnzalone has a metal plate under the scar on his forehead. Anzalone underwent surgery one week after sustaining the injury.
He returned to the lineup Sunday, six weeks after surgery, to help the Lions beat the Vikings 31-9 and earn the No. 1 seed in the NFC and a first-round bye in the playoffs. They also competed in the NFC North division for the second season in a row.
“Whenever you get injured or face difficulties, mentally it’s an opportunity to grow,” Anzalone told reporters after the game. “I feel like I’ve grown in different ways. You get it taken away from the game, and when you come back, it’s a blessing to play again.”
After missing the last six games against the Lions, Anzalone said the win over the Vikings was “a statement.” Detroit coach Dan Campbell He praised his linebacker for moving the team.
“His comeback was huge,” Campbell, 48, told reporters. “Look, I’ve said it before, he’s our best defensive player. He brings a lot of confidence, a lot of energy. He can calm storms. I thought it would take him a minute to regain his composure, and it didn’t take long at all. He was back to what he was before he got injured.”
When Anzalone returned from the game, his wife shared a message, Lindsey Anzalonehe had written for her on a dry erase board.
“Welcome home!” Lindsey wrote, in a photo Alex posted on her Instagram Story. “We are proud of you!”
Alex captioned the photo, “My why ❤️.”
The couple, who got married in June 2019, have two children: a son Cooper3, and a daughter Carter14 months.
After a successful first round, Anzalone and the Lions will return to action during the NFL Divisional Playoffs, which begin on Saturday, January 18, as Detroit tries to win its first Super Bowl in franchise history.
