The ESPN broadcast showed Pickens walking into it with fans on the field. It took the intervention of one of Pickens’ teammates to focus on the game instead of those who were talking trash to him on the sidelines.
Pickens did not speak to the media after the game. Steelers linebacker Russell Wilson expressed his support.
“I believe in George,” Wilson said, via ESPN. “Listen, everything is not perfect for everyone. This is an imperfect game and everything. I believe in George, I believe in who he is, the player he is.
BENGALS’ ZAC TAYLOR’S WARNING TO PLAYING TEAMS: ‘HE DOESN’T WANT THIS DIFFERENCE’
“He’s been our star all season, and he’s going to be an obvious winner for us in the playoffs. I’m looking forward to that and what he can do, what we can do together. And I don’t want to blink George. If someone believes in him, I do.
Pickens’ hard work has been an underlying theme of the Steelers’ season.
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin even went so far as to say that Pickens needs to “grow up fast.”
