Got 30 minutes of class time? Practice these 3 things, said a senior teacher

If you’ve decided that 2025 is your year to finally improve your golf game, you probably know that practicing is a good place to start.
But finding time to practice can be difficult with a busy schedule, and you’re just hitting ball after ball on the range do actually have time is not a good strategy.
So what does the high-handcapper hope to do? According to Top 100 trainer Krista Dunton, the key is to break the workout time you have into easily digestible segments. With a 30-minute time zone, for example, you should maximize your efficiency by cutting the time into three different blocks: mechanics, target practice, and working under pressure.
“The first 10 minutes should be spent working on your mechanics and whatever keys are technically ready for you,” says Dunton. In other words, this is the time to put those tips to good use, whether that’s important thinking about your time, transition or taking a trip.
For the next 10 minutes, Dunton says it’s time to focus on the target.
“That’s where you start to practice your forehand technique like you would on the golf course,” Dunton said. “Ready, take one last look at your chosen target, and pull the trigger.”
The last 10 minutes build on the process you’ve been doing but should also be stressful. At this stage, you should not only choose the target and perform the full routine, but also change the clubs between shots, and maybe even think about playing the hole in sequence. Practicing this way, Dunton said, means you’ll be ready for class.
“If you can do a regular practice routine like this, in three 10-minute segments, it will make your golf swing a lot easier,” Dunton said. “How can you expect to pass this course if you haven’t trained yet?” But if you practice properly, and train yourself to use a good routine, it’s very easy to get rid of that.”
Dunton’s practice advice will also help you maintain good technique between shots, and avoid the boredom that can set in when you hit a lot of balls. By considering your practice time, you can make even a short session beneficial to your overall development.
