The Best Battlestar Galactica Costume Cylon Rocks Celebration Super Fan Project

While uniforms are in vogue, Ronald D. Moore’s Battlestar Galactica reboot is not a show that is best remembered for its sci-fi fashion. There was one big exception, however: a bright red robe worn by a fiery Cylon known only as Six. She’s played to perfection by Tricia Helfer, who recently donned a red dress celebrating the ultimate fan project: a full-scale replica of Barry Armstrong’s Viper starfighter that pilots like Starbuck fly in the show.
Armstrong used his Facebook page, Baz Builds, to provide ongoing updates about his Viper project. This is more than just a still image, though that alone would still be incredibly impressive. His Viper, however, has lights, sounds, and moving parts, and through a series of happy events (or maybe the will of the Lords of Kobol?), he ended up getting a video shout-out from Tricia Helfer, complete with red. a burnt garment in the mind Battlestar Galactica fans around the world.
Understandably, Barry Armstrong found the following on his Facebook page… Armstrong is an Australian military veteran, and on December 21, his page received a post from Mitchell Bell, a marine who had the style of “Six Degrees of Kevin Bacon” Galacticathe hottest star. He wrote about how his “good Marine Brother, Freddie Joe Farnsworth worked with Tricia Helfer,” and the veteran was able to connect Bell with Helfer.
To hear Bell tell it, the actor was “struck by your passion for detail” in this incredible project, and that was enough for him to give it a shot. He “humbly asked to give a shout out” to Baz, and that led to a video he posted on Instagram. Tricia Helfer gave a friend of a friend a “Merry Christmas,” referring to her Viper project before entering the frame in her stunning red dress.
If you only know the actor in his serious and scary role as a villain Battlestar Galacticayou might be surprised at how silly the video is. When he first enters the frame, he makes a cat-like mewing sound as his sci-fi sound effect. After that, in a very loud voice, he narrates what he is doing on the screen: “Number Six in front of the Christmas tree!”
After Tricia Helfer got all good and silly in her fairytale red dress, she snidely said she was “trying to make fun of herself,” and then referred to Baz by name. Specifically, he said he hoped “Baz enjoyed the Merry Christmas shout out from Mitch.” As for the rest of the fandom, they enjoyed the video for other reasons, with fans on Instagram and beyond commenting on how gorgeous Helfer still looks and that she’s still rocking a hot little dress.
On the surface, it’s easy to view all of this as nothing more than eye candy. After all, seeing both a full-sized Viper and Tricia Helfer in a red dress makes for a very sweet Christmas meal for all of us. However, this whole series of events is very constructive for several other reasons, including the fact that it ensures that Battlestar Galactica fandom still. The planned Peacock reboot may be a dead Starbuck, but it’s surprising to know that there’s still a lot of enthusiasm for the 2003 show that helped make Tricia Helfer famous.
Speaking of that actor, it’s impossible to watch all of this without noticing that he’s a kind and classy actor. Tricia Helfer didn’t respond at all, let alone make our heads explode by dusting off her red dress. More than twenty years after Ronald D. Moore Battlestar Galactica premiered, Helfer proved that he still has incredible respect for the passionate fans who helped put the show on the map.
The only downside to all of this is that Barry Armstrong is making us question our lazy holidays. It feels like we’ve done nothing but stuff our faces and grab the DVR, and this man is here creating life-size animations that would put most Hollywood talkers to shame. Now, however, we can have the greatest motivation of all to do something meaningful with our lives: the knowledge that, if it’s cool enough, Tricia Helfer might record a rousing video for us.
So we all say. Or, in the spirit of the season, ho, ho, ho we all say.
