Matthew Gaudreau’s Mother Shares Emotional Reaction to Her Son’s Birth
Jane Gaudreau shared his emotional reaction after his grandson Tripp he was born just four months after Tripp’s father and Jane’s son Matthew Gaudreau he was killed by a drunk driver.
“Mama-Mama and Pop-Pop’s hearts are overflowing with love for you, Tripp Matthew,” Jane shared on her Instagram Story on Sunday, December 29, again referencing her husband, Guy. “We are proud of you and your mom and I know your dad is too! 💙.”
Matthew’s late wife, Madeline Gaudreauannounced Tripp’s arrival Sunday afternoon. “Tripp Matthew 🤍🦋Mommy & Daddy’s world,” Madeline shared on Instagram.
Tripp is the first child of Matthew and Madeline, who married in July 2021.

Matthew and his older brother, Johnnythey were hit and killed by a drunk driver while riding their bikes in Oldmans Township, New Jersey on August 30. Johnny was 31 years old, Matthew was 29 years old.
Katie Gaudreauthe younger sister of the brothers who were scheduled to marry the day after Matthew and Johnny were killed, also shared her enthusiastic reaction to Tripp’s birth.
“Yes!!!!!!!!!!!! Aunt Katie loves you, mom, and dad SOOOO much,” Katie commented on Madeline’s Instagram post announcing her arrival.
The entire Gaudreau family was by Madeline’s side during her pregnancy, including Madeline’s baby shower in October.
“Today we celebrated Matty, Madeline and Tripp at a baby shower,” Jane shared on Instagram on October 12. “I can’t wait to meet you Tripp Matthew and tell you all the great news about your amazing Dad and Uncle John.💙 ❤️.”
The shower was attended by Johnny’s wife, Meredith Gaudreauwho announced that she is nine weeks pregnant with the couple’s third child at the brothers’ memorial service in September.
Johnny and Meredith are the parents of a daughter Noahnow 2, and a son Johnnynow it’s been 10 months.
At the funeral, Madeline discussed how she would keep Matthew’s memory alive through their unborn son.
“Matt will be around his son for the rest of his life,” Madeline said. He added, “I am very grateful to God for giving us a child, little Matty, to run for the rest of his life, to continue his legacy. Tripp will know how much his father loved him, and I promise to do all the things we talked about.”
Matthew was due to celebrate his 30th birthday earlier this month, which Madeline remembered with a thoughtful message.
“Happy Birthday to the best husband and father 🤍,” Madeline wrote on Instagram on December 5. “When I met you I knew right away that you were the one. As I celebrate you today (and every day) I love you so much and am honored to be your wife. John would rather have friends that play all day, double the Oreos and a nice glass of your whiskey. 💙🦋 I love you and I can’t wait to kiss your face again.”
