Oakland police are investigating a crash involving BART police vehicles that left multiple people injured

A multi-vehicle crash involving two police vehicles left several people injured in Oakland, California, on Saturday, according to law enforcement officials.

The Oakland Police Department (OPD) told Fox News Digital that the accident happened in the 700 block of Mandela Parkway, near the train station in West Oakland. Pictures from the scene showed wrecked police cars with broken windows and doors, as well as debris on the road.

The authorities were notified of the situation at around 2:45 pm local time. According to Oakland police, two Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) police vehicles were involved in the crash.

“Several vehicle occupants were injured during the collision,” said an OPD spokesperson. “Emergency personnel rushed to the scene to help and transported people to local hospitals for treatment.”

Authorities are still investigating the crash and what led up to it.

“It is not known whether alcohol or drugs were the cause of this collision,” added the statement.

OPD did not disclose whether BART officers were injured.
