More than €615,000 was donated after the Christmas market raid
People have donated more than €615,000 ($641,000) to find victims and relatives of the Magdeburg Christmas market attack, city officials said.
More than 5,600 donations have been made to the cause so far, it added.
On December 20, a man – a doctor from Saudi Arabia who came to Germany in 2006 – drove a large BMW into crowds at a Christmas market, killing five people and injuring 235.
Magdeburg Mayor Simone Borris said that people’s willingness to donate is commendable.
“My thoughts are also with the five people who died, the bereaved and the many injured, as well as the many resources and emergencies,” he said in a statement.
“All donations prove that our city is stuck together. This gives us strength and confidence in the future.”
