“It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved son, brother, friend and boxing champion Paul Bamba, whose light and love touched the lives of many people,” the statement read. “He was a fierce but confident competitor with a never-ending desire to achieve greatness. But most of all, he was an amazing person who inspired many with his exceptional passion and determination.”
The note concluded, “We are saddened by his passing and kindly ask for privacy and understanding during this difficult time as we all deal with our grief.”
Ne-Yo, 45, shared a similar statement on his edited Instagram Story Nipsey Hussle‘s “Victory Lap.”
Bamba signed with Ne-Yo’s management company in November. It was the first time for this singer to enter the boxing ring.
“Complete honesty? Just believing in the fighter,” the “Miss Independent” singer told NBC News last month about the career move. “Seeing the places I could help him, realizing the places he could help me, it all made sense. You miss 100 percent of the shots you don’t shoot. Let me see what it’s about. you too, let me try.”

“This year I have set myself a goal. I did just that,” Bamba wrote on Instagram on Wednesday, December 25. “It wasn’t easy as there were many obstacles that I got used to overcoming and continued on the path we had taken regardless of the circumstances. 14 to fight. 14 awards ending with the WBA GOLD cruiserweight world title.”
He said, “I’m blessed to have my family and my team and all my supporters along the way. That being said if you find what some might call a ‘foreign goal,’ go after it. Anyone who thinks they are not as brave as you, prove people wrong!”
After the victory, Ne-Yo also paid tribute via his Instagram.
“Bigger things are coming. Thank you my boy!!” wrote earlier this week. “You are honored to be your manager. Let’s continue!!!”
