Things in Golden State are not where Stephen Curry would like them to be, which is why he and his teammates called a players-only meeting before the Warriors’ Christmas Day game against the Lakers.
Curry himself seemed inspired by the speech, as he scored his Christmas high of 38 points, but it wasn’t enough to get the win.
The storied franchise has now lost 11 of its last 14 games – hence the meeting.
“It’s an obvious turning point for where our season can go,” Curry said. (via ESPN). “In our last 14 games, it’s been difficult to try to get any kind of momentum or consistency, and with that, you can’t lose faith that we’re a good enough team to get it because this league is ruthless. .
“This league changes from window to window as to what you can go back to, if you dig yourself a hole like that, sometimes it’s hard to get out of it. So, we’re in that window where we can still regain momentum anyway many weeks before the date [All-Star] the break is important or not [we are] in a situation where we are chasing down. And no one wants to be there. “
Warriors coach Steve Kerr also commented on the way the team behaved during a difficult slump.
“We’re down,” Kerr said. “Everyone is disappointed. We have lost some confidence. You hear it. We had a good vibe at the beginning of the season, and we’re dealing with it right now.
“But I like our guys, they are top-class people. They care about them. They care about each other. I believe in them. I believe we will turn this thing around, so this is all part of the season, part of life.”
Kerr, Curry and Draymond Green have said many times now that they think the Warriors still have what it takes to win and come out of this slump.
“I still have hope and faith and confidence that we can get it,” said Curry. “So, that’s the way it was built. And I feel like you go out and talk about it, but how you do it, how you show up every night, the effort we put in, or you look at how our record has been in the past, it’s a team desperately, trying to understand. It just didn’t go our way. So, until things change, you have to keep that mindset. “
