Manchin calls Biden’s clemency for two killers ‘horribly misguided and insulting’
Following President Biden’s move to commute the sentences of 37 inmates to federal prison terms, Sen. Joe Manchin, IW.Va., called the clemency granted to the two “misguided and despicable.”
In 37 cases, Biden commuted sentences to life in prison without parole.
Manchin – a soon-to-be-retired independent Democratic member of parliament – said he felt a responsibility to speak up for the parents of Samantha Burns, who was killed in 2002 at the age of 19, according to reports.

“After speaking with the parents of Samantha Burns, I believe it is my duty to speak for them and say that President Biden’s decision to commute the death sentences of these two men who were convicted of brutal murder is not misleading and insulting,” said the member of Parliament. statement sent to X.
“Especially since Samantha’s family wrote letters to President Biden and the Department of Justice, begging them not to do this, but their concerns went unheard. I can’t imagine the grief that Kandi and John Burns are going through during the holiday season,” Manchin continued. “As their US Senator and father, I want to express my deepest sympathy for their continued suffering. Please know that Samantha will be in our prayers forever.”

Two men in connection with the death of a young woman escaped custody and went on a crime spree in 2002, according to the US Court of Appeals for the Fourth Circuit..

In a fiery Christmas Day post on Truth Social, President-elect Trump told 37 death row escapees to “GO TO HELL!”
In a statement about the changes, President Biden said, “I condemn these killers, I mourn the victims of their heinous acts, and I grieve for all the families who have suffered unimaginable and irreparable loss.”
