Jimmy Butler and Pat Riley Respond to Rife Butler Trade Rumors
Jimmy Butler trade rumors aren’t slowing down, but now Pat Riley is involved in the saga.
The latest from Shams Charania on Christmas Day was:
“Six-time NBA All-Star Jimmy Butler is opting for a trade to Miami ahead of the Feb. 6 deadline, league sources told ESPN.
“ESPN reported on Inside Pass on December 10th that the Heat are willing to listen to Butler’s trade offers, and that Butler is looking for a winner now in any deal. Butler has not officially requested a trade, sources said, but is believed to be ready to leave. “
Shams also reported that Miami is open to listening to the offers of Butler, who wants to trade “to someone who is successful now”, such as the Phoenix Suns, Golden State Warriors, Dallas Mavericks and Houston Rockets.
According to multiple sources, Butler was disappointed that the Heat did not publicly deny ESPN’s Dec. 10 report that Miami was open to a trade for him.
Things appeared to be tense between the star player and the Heat as the franchise did not offer him an extension in the summer.
He is under a $49 million contract with the Heat this season and has a $52 million player option for 2025-26.
With the two sides unable to reach an extension, speculation that he could be traded or leave as a free agent during the 2025 offseason has been constant.
However, today, the president of the Heat, Pat Riley, finally denied the rumors that the team wants to sell their player.
“Normally we don’t comment on rumours, but all this speculation has become a distraction for the team and it’s not good for the players and coaches,” said Riley. “So, we’ll be clear – we’re not selling Jimmy Butler.”
