The Herald Square taxi driver was undergoing treatment at the time of the accident
The driver of a yellow cab that hit six pedestrians while jumping a curb in a New York City shopping district on Christmas Day was having a medical emergency at the time, police said.
The New York Police Department (NYPD) confirmed to Fox News Digital that the taxi driver, 58, launched the taxi over the curb, throwing the car into a group of pedestrians in Herald Square at 6th Avenue and West 34th Street shortly after 4. pm ET on Christmas Day.
The NYPD did not elaborate on the nature of the emergency, but said the driver was taken to the hospital following the incident and is in stable condition.

Three others were also admitted to the hospital, the police said. Authorities say a 9-year-old boy was taken to hospital with leg injuries; a 41-year-old woman was taken to the hospital with a head injury; and a 49-year-old woman was rushed to the hospital with a leg injury.

Some people refused to go ahead with medical treatment following the accident, police said.
Herald Square is a popular tourist spot, especially during the holidays, at the intersection of Broadway, Sixth Avenue and 34th Street.
