The Year of the Podcast: Trump’s 5 podcast interviews sidelined the liberal legacy media

President-elect Donald Trump’s ability to impersonate himself in candid podcasts and quips is widely credited with helping to return him to the White House in 2024.

Since the election, Republicans and Democrats have analyzed why Trump defeated Vice President Kamala Harris. One important thing that commentators across the political spectrum can agree on is that podcast interviews seem to affect elections more than celebrity endorsements or liberal legacy media.

The data seems to support this, as the Poynter Institute noted that some are even calling 2024 the “podcast election,” as both Trump and Harris make numerous appearances on programs that reach specific, large audiences.

While Harris’ journey to the podcast circuit has ranged from appearances on “Club Shay Shay,” hosted by former NFL player Shannon Sharpe, to the popular “Call Her Daddy” podcast, hosted by former Barstool player Alex Cooper, Trump came out on top. His choice to lean towards podcasts, which are mostly male-oriented, has had positive results with Gen Z men and millennials. A Fox News Voter Survey published earlier this month found that men aged 18-44 support Trump at 53% compared to Vice President Kamala Harris at 45%.

“There is no benefit – as far as our colleagues in the mainstream press – in the general election, talking to the New York Times or talking to the Washington Post, because those [readers] they already have us,” said deputy campaign manager Rob Flaherty.

From inventing “weave” to joking about a failed attempt at his life, Trump’s podcast tour in 2024 included several memorable moments and showed the growing influence of the medium.

Trump tells Rogan about ‘huge mistake’ of his first term and ‘comedian attitude’

Trump’s late October appearance on “The Joe Rogan Experience” marathon has been viewed more than 53 million times on YouTube alone and is believed to have been a turning point in the election. Rogan, who is known for drawing raw and unusual expressions from his guests, did not disappoint in his interview with Trump.

“The biggest mistake,” Trump said of his first term as president, was that “I elected a few people that I shouldn’t have elected,” citing “neocons or bad people or dishonest people.” One specific example Trump remembers is White House National Security Adviser John Bolton, whom he fired in 2019. Trump said Bolton was useful as a threat to make other countries think, “Man, Trump is going to fight us,” but countered, “He was with Bush when they went to the Middle East stupidly. They shouldn’t have done it. I used to say it as a normal person, so I always got credit more than other people.”

Trump then expressed his surprise that he somehow got more publicity than others, inviting Rogan to suggest why.

“Of course I could,” Rogan replied and laughed. “You said a lot of wild things s—.”

“Maybe,” Trump replied with a smile. Trump later went on to explain, “You know, it’s funny. You need at least a comedian’s attitude when you’re in this business, this is a very dangerous business.”

Late after the interview, Rogan marveled at recent guests about Trump’s “ability to carry on” in their 3-hour podcast interview without a bathroom break. He stepped forward in support of Trump on the eve of the election.

Trump covers ‘weave’ on ‘Flagrant’ podcast, breaks comedians with Biden jab

Trump appeared on the “Flagrant” podcast hosted by comedians Andrew Schulz and Akaash Singh, but managed to break up throughout the interview.

In the interview, Trump slapped President Biden.

“He has one skill that I don’t have — he sleeps,” Trump said as the hosts laughed, later marveling at Biden’s ability to “sleep while on camera.”

Trump also laughed, “Someone convinced you that you look good in a bathing suit, and when you’re 82, bathing suits usually don’t make you look good.”

At one critical moment in that same conversation, Trump said, “I’m not kidding,” countering that, “I’m doing something called a weave,” a process where he says he can continue in a conversation and spin around. back to the main point.

“You need an extraordinary memory, because you have to go back to where you started,” he said boasting as those in charge laughed that “he can go here or there, and I can go back to where I started.”

Schulz later reflected on the interview with his stakeholders that “my reaction is that Trump is winning by a landslide. It’s not even close,” a sharp departure from his initial belief that Trump “doesn’t stand a chance.”

On “The Brilliant Idiots,” another podcast Schulz co-hosts with host Charlamagne Tha God, Charlamagne cracks Schulz up by telling him an anecdote about how the podcast has been received by young men. Charlamagne told Schulz that a young black man he knows, but declined to give his name, responded to Schulz’s conversation with Trump with a shocking, “‘Flagrant’ vote for Trump.”

Schulz just laughed, “The interview was hot bro, I don’t know what to say to you.”

Trump disses Harris on Theo Von podcast, says Biden was forced out

Comedian and podcaster Theo Von interviewed Trump in August, who accepted the invitation after being urged by his son, Barron.

This episode of the “Last Weekend” podcast has garnered 15 million views since its release in August. Trump used his time to blast not only Harris, but the Democratic Party behind him. At the time, America was still reeling from Biden dropping the nomination under intense pressure from party luminaries like Nancy Pelosi. Von asked Trump for his opinion on what happened.

“It was a war,” Trump said, later suggesting, “[Chuck] Schumer, Pelosi, and a lot of other people – the heads of the Democratic Party,” Trump reflected. “And they did – they threatened him with violence, I think. And he didn’t want to get out, remember he said, ‘Only God will get me out?’

The president-elect also took time to criticize Harris, arguing, “He’s the worst vice president ever, he’s the worst president ever, a deadly combination.”

He then called Harris “the worst frontier king in the history of the world,” to the effect that there are “hundreds of thousands of murderers” in the United States.

Trump joked with WWE’s Undertaker about the latest assassination attempt

At the end of October, Mark Calaway, better known as “The Undertaker” from WWE wrestling, interviewed Trump on his “Six Feet Under” podcast, reaching almost a million views.

Trump spoke candidly about the second attempt on his life that took place a few weeks ago. Ryan Wesley Routh, 58, is accused of pointing an AK-47 at Trump during a visit to the Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach, Fla. chain-link fence one hole before where Trump played.

It was some kind of van, then he took pictures and sent them to the sheriff!

Trump jokes with Logan Paul, dares Biden to do a long interview like he did

Trump appeared on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast in early June, where he talked about topics ranging from the war in Ukraine to UFOs, but took time to knock his Democratic opponent for a lack of conversation.

“He couldn’t do this interview,” he said of Biden, who was still the Democratic Party’s nominee at the time. “Have you ever asked him questions like this?”

When the athletes said that he was not on their program, but they would like to entrust him, Trump seemed to like the idea, which made the athletes laugh as he said, “I think it should. You know what chance you have of getting I would say less than 1%.”

Trump appeared on Logan Paul’s “Impaulsive” podcast in early June.

Paul then asked Trump what he knew about UFO’s/UAP’s, and even though Trump said he had talked to reputable pilots who had unexplained experiences, he remained skeptical. That said, it’s one type of alien that worries him.

“I know there are illegal aliens out there,” Trump joked. “But they are the ones who enter the border, we have a lot of them. They are the ones I know. When you say ‘aliens,’ I say: ‘Are they illegal aliens?’
