The first trailer for ‘Happy Gilmore’ 2 dropped in surprise just in time for the holidays

With a rare Christmas appearance and the first night of Chanukah falling on that day, Happy Gilmore himself delighted movie fans on Wednesday by releasing the first single from “Happy Gilmore 2” as a holiday surprise.

Adam Sandler, the former hockey star turned pro phenom, who will also star in the upcoming Netflix movie tweeted the game to his 3.1 million followers on Wednesday morning.

In the brief, 33-second clip, many shots feature Sanderr, sporting his now-signature beard and iconic Boston Bruins jersey from the original 1996 film. However, the clip also confirms the appearance of Kansas City Chiefs Tight End Travis Kelce and rapper Bad Bunny in the film.

Fans of Allen Covert’s performance as Otto, the homeless caddy in the first film may be disappointed as it appears that Bad Bunny has taken over the role of Gilmore’s caddy based on the teaser. It’s often said that you don’t want to be the first star of a rising star (see “Fluff” Cowan and Tiger Woods), so it seems that Otto may have fallen victim to this trend.

The teaser confirmed the appearance of two of Gilmore’s co-stars in the first film; Julie Bowen as Gilmore’s love interest and “Pro Tour” public relations director Virginia Venit and Christopher McDonald as Shooter McGavin, Gilmore’s rival on the “Pro Tour” and antagonist of the first film.

In a nod to the line from the first film, the popular Twitter account “Shooter McGavin” wrote that he will be donating his performance in the sequel “in memory of Chubb.” Longtime golfer Chubbs Peterson was killed in the first film, and actor Carl Weathers died in February.

Earlier this year, GOLF reported that “Happy Gilmore 2” will be filmed mostly at New Jersey’s Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club. The shooting was to begin in early October.

No official release date has been given for the sequel, which will be streamed exclusively on Netflix, but a banner at the end of the theater confirmed a 2025 release. The film will be directed by Kyle Newacheck.
