I’m not happy that Donald Trump has renewed his attack on the “corrupt media.”
Fresh off his ABC win with George Stephanopoulos, Trump yesterday sued the Des Moines Register and gold prospector Ann Selzer for a bad survey. He revealed that he would lose by 4 points, and won the state by 13 points. He called this “interference in the election.”
Trump also pursued legal action against CBS for allegedly “60 Minutes” instead of answering Kamala Harris to a different question than the one asked. But the network would argue that this was normal television programming.
Trump is unlikely to win those suits, but he doesn’t care. Simply putting his opponents through misery and the cost of defense is reward enough.

Many legal experts say ABC could have won the case, including Stephanopoulos who repeatedly argued that Trump was convicted of “rape,” instead of “sexual assault,” in the E. Jean Carroll, because of the brutal level of the public. . Trump will have to prove that the network showed willful disregard for the truth. But ABC would endure the embarrassment of answering emails, texts and cell phone records.
However, what surprised me was that the president-elect changed and attacked after a few days saying that he had “softened” the media and was getting better coverage. So much for the ceasefire.
But some of Trump’s positives were revealed during the hour-long presser, a sincerity of purpose I saw in our interview in New York two weeks before the election.

I’ve known Donald Trump for over three decades, interviewed him twice this year, and now that we’re done with the campaign rhetoric, he sounds different.
With boundless energy at 78, he speaks deliberately slowly and softly, while moderating his positions on many divisive issues. He knows how to deflect questions he shouldn’t answer, like “Are you going to take revenge on Iran.” He posted phrases like “maybe it was my fault,” disparaging any superhuman image. He recently admitted that it will be difficult to lower the price of groceries.
The incoming president was asked whether Republican senators opposed to the nominees should be elected. His answer was carefully written.

“If they are unreasonable, I will give you a different answer. The answer you will be shocked to hear. If they are unreasonable, if they oppose someone for political or stupid reasons, I can say that I am not affiliated with me, I can say that they will be named, but, if they are reasonable, fair, and disagree with something or someone, I can see that happening. “
Of course it is Trump who decides what is reasonable or appropriate.
Asked about the parade of Silicon Valley executives who came or are coming to Mar-a-Lago – the leaders of Meta, Amazon, Google, Apple and others – Trump noted that they were “very hostile” during his first term (“and maybe that was my fault, but I don’t think so”). It is not sad that Mark Zuckerberg and Jeff Bezos kicked millions of dollars for his appointment.
“One big difference” is that “everybody was fighting me” in the first term. Now, “everyone wants to be my friend. I don’t know, my personality has changed or something.” That was tongue in cheek.
What was surprising about the press conference was how much news Trump made about various topics, some of which were not discussed.
He then took over from the fake Duke who was accused of rape, who finally admitted that he lied in 2006, saying that life will never be the same for lacrosse players who did nothing wrong. He talked about how the Biden team was out of touch with the public about drones. He described the “sickness” of those who look favorably on the man accused of killing a UnitedHealthcare executive. He supported the polio vaccine. He defended Pete Hegseth. He talked about Venezuela and Syria and Turkey and North Korea and Bibi. You mentioned TikTok.

There was a sense of deja vu, a stark reminder that Trump was a constant source of news in the prime, even when talking to reporters he didn’t like, sometimes insulting them or arguing against their coverage. The difference with the former Guy, who did not make the news on the weekends he used to spend in Delaware or Camp David, would not be great.
So beyond the media’s full onslaught, long his favorite foil, the Incoming Guy actually showed restraint and nuance and was clearly having fun.
Now maybe Trump has just been in a bad mood the last few days. After Judge Juan Merchan refused to dismiss the money case because his private actions were not included in the Supreme Court’s latest ruling on official actions, the incoming president yesterday posted this:
