The DP World Tour stops English golfer Marco Penge with a bet
England’s Marco Penge has been suspended by the DP World Tour after its disciplinary body found he bet on several golf events, the circuit said on Wednesday.
The DP World Tour said that Penge, 26, was not betting on himself or on the days of the tournaments when he was competing, which led the team to find that the integrity of such events was not compromised.
World No. 414 Penge was given a three-month ban that took effect on Dec. 13, although one month has been suspended for a whole year pending further violations of the tourism integrity system. Penge was also fined £2,000 ($2,539).
The DP World Tour said Penge’s fines were reduced due to his prompt admission of violations and cooperation during the investigation.
Penge, who recently played at the Australian Open in November where he finished 27th, can return to participation on the DP World Tour from February 13.
