Luigi Mangione’s mother made a shocking confession to the police

Luigi Mangione’s mother spoke to police a day before the suspect’s arrest, telling them that the brutal killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson “may have been something he could see himself doing.”

Last month, Mangione’s mother reported her son missing to San Francisco police, saying she hadn’t spoken to him since July.

California investigators believe they know Mangione after the New York Police Department (NYPD) released photos of the suspect in Thompson’s murder, according to NYPD Chief of Detectives Joseph Kenny.

Kenny said the investigators then called Mangione’s mother and asked her if the suspect might be the one the police were hunting for her son.

“They had a conversation where he didn’t show that it was his son in the picture, but he said it might be something he saw him doing,” said Kenny at a press conference on Tuesday afternoon.

Kenny said the phone conversation happened “very late” on Dec. 7. Mangione, an Ivy League-educated computer programmer, was photographed on December 9 at a McDonald’s in Altoona, Pennsylvania.

Mangione is being held in Pennsylvania as authorities work to bring him back to New York.

Mangione, 26, is accused of sneaking up behind Thompson outside a Manhattan hotel as the victim, who lives in Minnesota, was on his way to a shareholders meeting on a December morning.

It is alleged that he then shot and killed Thompson in the hideout of the extortion system caught on surveillance video.
