DA indicted after shooting fugitive, hitting children inside: police

A Tennessee grand jury has indicted a district attorney after he allegedly shot a fleeing suspect on Nov. 21. he ended up hitting a home with a woman and three children inside, according to state officials.

A DeKalb County grand jury indicted 31st District Attorney General Christopher Robert Stanford on Monday on one count of reckless endangerment, the Tennessee Bureau of Investigation (TBI) said in a press release.

“The investigation revealed that, during a search for a wanted fugitive, Stanford fired a gun several times on Bell Street in Smithville, hitting a home occupied by a woman and her three children,” reads a TBI press release.

The lawsuit, obtained by Fox News Digital, says Stanford “unlawfully, intentionally and recklessly” fired his weapon, hitting a front porch chair and the wall of the front living room, putting the occupants at risk of death. or serious bodily injury. The case goes on to say that no one inside the house was injured in the incident.

Dunaway added that the incident “[r]pleased with the action of a woman named Hannah Rose.”

On the morning of November 20, Warren County Sheriff’s Office deputies found three dead people on Merry Oaks Road. Authorities first arrested their first suspect, Jessica Root, in connection with the three murders and eventually found Brookins, their second suspect, in the car driven by Rose, said the Warren County Sheriff’s Office.

A security officer was injured during the Nov. 21 arrest of Brookins.

Brookins and Root are charged with three counts of murder, while Rose is charged with aggravated assault and evading arrest for hitting a police officer with his car while trying to flee.

Stanford turned himself in to the DeKalb County Jail earlier this week and was released after posting a $10,000 bond.
