Ventura Counties ‘Shoplift With A Cop’ operation blitz nets 37 arrests
While the rest of the world is getting into the holiday spirit, the Ventura County Organized Retail Theft Task Force’s “Shoplift With A Cop” is making sure the holiday vibes are a little safer.
Authorities in Ventura County, California shared the results Thursday of a weekend operation called “Shoplift With a Cop” that led to drug busts and the arrest of 37 suspects, including several children.
“The operation resulted in the arrest of 21 adults and 16 juveniles, the recovery of nearly $2,000 in stolen property, and the seizure of burglary tools and various drugs, including fentanyl, methamphetamine, and cocaine,” according to the statement.

The team conducted their holiday work at the Pacific View Mall in downtown Ventura last Friday and Saturday.
“This effort highlights the serious challenges of shoplifting that affects not only the mall but businesses throughout the county,” the Sheriff’s Department said.
The operation was a joint effort of detectives and the task force and members of the West County Sheriff’s Special Law Enforcement Unit, the District Attorney’s Bureau of Investigations and the Loss Prevention and Asset Protection teams from Target, JCPenney, and Macy’s, and Allied Security. .

The sheriff’s office expressed a desire for retailers in the region who experience shoplifting to reach out and participate in similar blitz operations in the future.
