Russia’s nuclear weapons chief, assistant killed in Moscow explosion

Lt. Gen. Igor Kirillov, head of the Russian Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Defense Forces, and his aide were killed in a bomb blast in Moscow on Tuesday.

The Russian Investigative Committee said the explosive device was planted on a scooter near a residential building, according to the Associated Press.

“Investigators, forensics and operations personnel are working at the scene,” RIC spokeswoman Svetlana Petrenko said in a statement. “Investigations and searches are underway to establish all the circumstances surrounding this crime.”
