Hall of Fame quarterback worries Caleb Williams may lose ‘confidence’ amid Bears’ horrendous season

Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman expressed concern Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams on Monday night in the middle of a bad season that saw the Bears’ losing streak drop to eight with a loss to the Minnesota Vikings.

Williams found great success Vikings linebackerr Jihad Ward during the second half of the Bears’ 30-12 loss, but the rookie’s mental toughness seems to be a bigger concern for Aikman than his physical toughness.

“When you said we were looking at him from the sidelines, he was upset and in a lot of pain,” Aikman told Joe Buck during ESPN’s broadcast. The New York Post.

“And as I look at him, you can see he’s a loser. I said he’s never experienced this in his career. What’s troubling is a rookie quarterback losing confidence.”

Bears interim coach Thomas Brown seems to believe that despite the season’s struggles, Williams is in “good shape” mentally.

“I think mentally he’s in a good place,” Brown said Tuesday. “Yes, he is frustrated as we all are with not getting the result. But the confidence is not shaken.”

Williams has been sacked this season a league-high 58 times, just eight shy of the record for sacks.

“I think I’ve got a few bruises and a bit of a concussion,” Williams said after the game, adding that he didn’t believe the sacks had been bothering him “in the mind.”
