Georgia shooting leaves one dead at military base in ‘private’ incident: officers
A shooting at the Fort Eisenhower military base in Augusta, Georgia, on Saturday left one person dead, officials said.
The site was shut down shortly before 9 a.m. Saturday, making the announcement via social media to more than 110,000 people living in the site.
“IF YOU ARE IN DANGER, TAKE PROPER ACTION!” the message read on Facebook.
In a statement, the military center said the victim was shot at the post office and died later.

The site, which was known as Fort Gordon, said information about the person who was shot will be released after relatives are notified.

“Our priority at the moment is to support the victim’s family and help anyone affected by this tragedy,” said the site after the lockdown notice. “The safety and well-being of our citizens – our Soldiers and Families – remains our top priority.”

The suspect was taken into custody and local and state law enforcement are investigating the incident.
