South Korean lawmakers voted to censure the president for declaring martial law
South Korean lawmakers on Saturday voted to censure President Yoon Suk Yeol for his temporary declaration of martial law earlier this month.
The National Assembly passed the proposal by 204-85 votes on Saturday.
Saturday’s vote means Yoon’s presidential powers and duties will be suspended after copies of the impeachment document are delivered to him and the Constitutional Court.

The court has up to 180 days to decide whether to dismiss Yoon as president or restore his power. If he is removed from office, a national election to choose his successor must be held within 60 days.
