Parent Defense Education founder calls Biden administration’s DEI spending on schools a ‘slap in the face’

Parents Protect Education founder Nicki Neily called the Biden administration’s decision to spend more than $1 billion on diversity, equity and inclusion. [DEI] programs and training in American schools are “heartbreaking” and disrespectful to American students.

“We’re at a time when 40% of American students can’t read, and this is how the Biden-Harris administration has chosen to waste hard-earned American taxpayer dollars. It’s a real slap in the face,” Neily said on “Fox & Friends First” on Friday.

Parents Defending Education investigators looked at nearly four years of grants awarded to the Biden administration from 2021 to present and found that the Biden administration spent hundreds of millions of dollars on diversity, equity and inclusion grants for students and schools.

According to in the report$489,883,797 was spent on racial employment grants; $343,337,286 went to DEI general planning; and $169,301,221 went to DEI-based mental health training and programming, for a total of $1,002,522,304.81 spent.

BIDEN DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION SPENT MORE THAN $1 BILLION ON DEI GRANTS: REPORT

The US Department of Education has spent at least $1 billion in grants that improve diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) hiring, programs and mental health training in America’s schools by 2021, according to a new report. (Getty Images)

Examples in the report include a $3,974,496 grant awarded to School district of Philadelphia by a restorative justice system led by a former member of the Communist Party of the USA; a $4,000,000 grant for a 3-week computer science summer camp for 600 11th and 12th grade students; and a $38,000 grant to a Michigan school district for a one-day professional development training by an equity consultant, and copies of the consultant’s letter.

Neily argued that DEI is dangerous because it “confronts people” and labels people as “oppressed” or “non-oppressed.”

He cited a recent study from the Network Contagion Research Institute (NCRI) and Rutgers University that found a significant increase in hate and punitive attitudes among participants exposed to DEI pedagogy.

“So these are hurting American children, they’re not helping anyone. They’re hurting themselves,” he told Fox News.

Texas, Florida and several other states have introduced or passed legislation banning DEI in higher education. Neily said universities should know that DEI is on the way out with the incoming Republican administration.

“These programs need to be completely eliminated. And I think that in the next four years we will have a major effort to clean up,” he predicted.
