Attorney Nancy Mace, who is accused of the attack, denies the charge of the incident that happened in the Capitol area

The man accused of harassing Rep. Nancy Mace, RS.C., on the Capitol grounds in Washington, DC, Tuesday night pleaded not guilty to assault.

James McIntyre, 33, of Illinois, was charged with assault on a public official on Tuesday after allegedly dating Mace.

According to a police affidavit, two witnesses told US Capitol Police that a man in his 40s approached Mace, who turned out to be the victim, to shake his hand. When Mace pulled out his hand, the man grabbed his hand with both hands and “moved his arm up and down in an exaggerated, jerky hand motion.”

Police said witnesses provided the name and photo of a man Mace met after finding an online posting of the event. The suspect was later identified by witnesses as James McIntyre, who police say is a 33-year-old resident of Illinois.

Police spoke to Mace after the encounter, and he said the same thing.

Mace told police that he offered his right hand to the man for a shake, then folded both of his hands and began shaking his arm up and down in a “violent and exaggerated manner.”

Mace said he tried to remove his hand from the man but failed.

During the violent shaking, Mace said, the man said, “Trans youth deserve to speak up.”

Mace told the police that he was shocked by the situation and did not say anything to the man.

He also said that he felt panic when he tried to withdraw, and after meeting, he felt pain in his wrists, arm and shoulder.

When he was asked if he wanted the emergency services to respond, Mace said he refused.

After this incident, Mace turned to social media to tell his fans what happened.

“I suffered tonight on the Capitol grounds because of my fight to protect women. The Capitol Police arrested her,” said Mace on the X site. “All the violence and threats continue to prove our point. Women deserve to be safe. Your threats will not stop my fight against women!”

On Wednesday, he continued to write about meeting X in a series of posts.

In another, he said he just got off the phone with President-elect Trump.

“Thank you, Mr. President, for looking at me and representing women,” wrote Mace. “We can’t wait to see you back in the White House.”

In another post, he shared a picture of himself with his arm in a sling.

Mace’s office did not immediately respond to Fox News Digital’s request for an update on the attorney’s status Wednesday.

A magistrate judge ordered McIntyre released after a trial in District of Columbia Superior Court.

Mace has been very vocal about his opposition to transgender people using bathrooms that are not assigned to their natural sex.

He led the charge to allow Rep.-elect Sarah McBride, Democrat of Delaware, to use women’s restrooms on Capitol Hill. McBride is a natural man as pointed and quiet as a woman.

Mace said last month that he had been receiving death threats, adding that he was “unfairly targeted.”

Mace also authored HR 1579, which would prohibit members, officers and staff of the House from using services other than those that correspond to their natural sex.
