US lawmakers are asking the feds to investigate mysterious drones over New Jersey

American lawmakers from New Jersey have joined the frustration of many citizens about the many reports of drones being flown near sensitive areas such as a military research center in recent weeks, and are now asking government agencies to quickly help investigate and solve the growing problem.

Rep. Chris Smith, RN.J., joined law enforcement leaders in his district Monday on Long Beach Island, as one of the people leading efforts to investigate the source and potential dangers associated with drone activity.

“I have been speaking with Ocean County Sheriff Mike Mastronardy, Monmouth County Sheriff Shaun Golden, and local Homeland Security officials to discuss the widespread reports of UFO activity in my central New Jersey state and our home state,” Smith said. in the statement. “The citizens of New Jersey are understandably shocked by this significant and recurring situation – and the strong response from our federal and state agencies thus far is completely unacceptable. As we saw with the Chinese spy balloon last year, our fiercest enemies will stop at nothing to patrol our country and threaten our national security.”

The FBI has been investigating reports of several mysterious nocturnal flights that began last month in central New Jersey, and the agency has asked for the public’s help. Since making the call, residents have reported seeing drones in other parts of the state.

According to Gov. Phil Murphy, there were 49 reports of drones on Sunday alone, mostly in Hunterdon County. The Democrat governor said his numbers include possible sightings and reports of the same drone more than once.

“This is something we take very seriously. I don’t blame people for being frustrated,” Murphy said.

Who is flying the drones and why are both mysteries, although federal and state officials continue to say there is no known danger or threat to public safety.

But Smith said that while the origin of the drone activity remains to be determined, communication channels between authorities, including law enforcement officials and federal partners, must be “greatly improved” to quickly address challenges with unregulated aircraft systems.

“The people of New Jersey deserve swift and bold action by our state and federal agencies to investigate, evaluate, and resolve this situation quickly and alleviate the growing concerns of our community,” Smith said, adding that he has already asked. in many government organizations regarding visuals. “I will continue to work around the clock to ensure that law enforcement has all the tools and authorities necessary to identify these drone programs and until the citizens of New Jersey have the answers they deserve.”

Likewise, Rep. Tom Kean, RN.J., also expressed frustration with the lack of urgency surrounding unmanned drones over the Garden State.

“I join thousands of New Jersey citizens in deep frustration about the growing concern about drones operating in our skies. The safety and privacy of our citizens must be a priority, and right now, both are at risk,” Kean wrote. X. “I am calling on the Department of Homeland Security, the Federal Aviation Administration, and other appropriate government agencies to commit more resources to investigate and address this growing problem.”

“Additionally, an in-depth public forum from the authorities should be held immediately,” he added. “The people of New Jersey deserve answers, and I will continue to seek accountability to ensure that their rights and safety are fully protected.”

Drones are legal in New Jersey for recreational and commercial use, although they are subject to local and Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulations and flight restrictions.

Drone operators are also required to be FAA certified.

Most of the drones seen over New Jersey are reportedly larger than those used by hobbyists.

Some questions and concerns have been raised about these flights because they took place near the Picatinny Arsenal, a US military research and manufacturing facility, and at President-elect Trump’s Bedminster golf course.

The FBI is asking citizens to share any videos or photos they have of the planes, as well as any other relevant information.
