Three men accused of kidnapping and robbing a girl were killed by a mob in central Mexico on Saturday, local authorities said.
Killings have risen in Mexico in recent years, as experts say the perception of impunity is leading communities to take measures against themselves.
The three were killed on Saturday afternoon in San Juan Amecac, 42 kilometers southeast of the capital Mexico City, the local government said in a statement.
“Three men died after being arrested and killed by the villagers for allegedly robbing and kidnapping a child,” he said.
Police rushed to the scene but the men “were not showing any vital signs” when they arrived, it added.
About 300 people took part in this incident — they hanged and beat the men to death, according to the media.
The heightened vigilance comes amid a broad increase in violence in Mexico since 2006, fueled by drug trafficking.
In June, four men were killed and set on fire by a mob who accused them of stealing a car in the nearby town of Atlixco.
In March, residents of the southern city of Taxco he killed a woman they were accused of killing an eight-year-old girl. Two men who are suspected to be involved in the area were attacked but survived, reports the BBC.
