Land of Fire just made Bode and Gabriela’s romantic future even more unclear after introducing a shocking reunion.
On the Friday, December 6, episode of the hit CBS series, Bode (Max Thieriotand Gabriela (Stephanie Arcila) were both dealing with the consequences of their breakup – but in two very different ways. Bode threw himself into work as he prepared to graduate from the Cal Fire training program. Gabriela, on the other hand, continued her breakdown with Sharon’s anxiety (Diane Farr).
Bode eventually passed the program and officially became a firefighter, celebrating the news by cooking dinner for him and his newlywed Audrey (Leven Rambin). The two love each other very much, but they stop continuing their relationship. Instead, the final moments of the episode focus on Gabriela sitting at a bar with her ex, Jake (Jordan Calloway).
“Everything has been too much for me these days,” Gabriela admitted to Jake about her recent emotional breakdown. “Working, drinking so I can’t hear and cliff diving so I can feel something—even if it’s the pounding of the ocean. Maybe I’m too much.”
Jake admitted that he is facing his own problems.
“I’m losing it [my late girlfriend’s daughter] Gene goes [her biological father] Rick,” Jake said. “Rick called and Gene wants to stay in Idaho, he wants to sign up [in school] and he wants me to send him his things. I keep telling myself it will make it real but I think I want to stay in shock or I might just lose it.”
After Jake urged Gabriela to “change the subject,” the doctor brought up their love story, saying, “Can you believe we were here not long ago at this bar and I said I love you?” It seems like a million years ago. We had some good times though.”
The episode ended with Gabriela and Jake having sex in her car outside Smokey’s Tavern. While fans were worried about Bode’s budding friendship with Audrey, it’s safe to say that no one saw Gabriela and Jake’s reconciliation coming.
In Season 1, which premiered in 2021, Gabriela makes contact with Bode while dating Jake. Gabriela ended her relationship with Jake to wait for Bode to be released from the California Conservation Camp program. Bode broke things off when he was sent back to prison, and at the beginning of the second season Gabriela was engaged to Diego.

Season 3 quickly ended Gabriela and Diego’s relationship before they got married – but that didn’t mean she was ready to be with Bode.
“There will always be love and you will always feel that way,” Arcila, 34, said to herself Us Weekly in October about the new Bode and Gabriela. “Most relationships—long-lasting relationships—start as friendships. You know each other and build that relationship without it. This will be a good opportunity for them to get to know each other in a different place in their lives.”
Arcila continued to defend Gabriela’s decision not to rush into Bode.
“It’s important for anyone in any relationship – and people who see you on the outside – to recognize the battle between your mind and your heart and what should and shouldn’t be. All that is human,” he says about Gabriela’s conflicting feelings. “Society has created these fairy tales, especially women. The fact that people see Gabriella asking things and don’t know where she’s going is a fun part of the story. “
Arcila continued: “A lot of people are angry and a lot of people are saying, ‘Wait, what’s going on? What will you do? What is this?’ But in the end, we are all perfectly flawed human beings. … There will be many changes. This is a season that shows his imperfections, which I really appreciate because we are all human. We are not perfect. We make mistakes and we all deserve forgiveness and redemption. So, this is a story about redemption.”
Thieriot, 36, on the other hand, did not rule out Bode’s romance with Gabriela – in the end.
“It’s about finding that [storytelling] balance. You don’t want to have complete instant gratification… [we’re] you try to stretch some of that out and get those moments. It was easy to do that when he was in camp and there was so much they could do. Since he is free, that has been one of the challenges,” he explained Us that month. “It’s figuring out how to sit a little bit in that gray and fight their relationship instead of just opening the floodgates and it’s a thing.”
