Bangladesh completed a stunning comeback to beat the West Indies in the second Test match by 101 runs and record their first victory in the Caribbean since 2009.

Taijul Islam picked up five wickets in his 15th Test innings to lead Bangladesh to a series-levelling victory on the fourth night of the final Test of the series at Sabina Park on Tuesday.

After Jaker Ali’s Test-best innings of 91 lifted the visitors to 268 all out in their second innings and left the home side with a victory target of 287, left-arm spinner Islam broke behind the effort of the Caribbean team with 5-50 as. 185 were fired in the last session of the day.

Fast bowler Nahid Rana, who took five wickets in the first innings to bring Bangladesh back into contention, was happy to manage the final rites when he bowled the last man, Shamar Joseph, for his only wicket of the innings.

“We wanted to be confident and I thought we started well, but obviously we couldn’t get going until the end of the day,” said a ferocious Brathwaite.

This was Bangladesh’s first Test victory in the West Indies since defeating the Caribbean side in 2009 by 2-0.

Earlier Ali’s brilliant innings, which took 106 deliveries and was studded with eight fours and five sixes, tipped the balance heavily in Bangladesh’s favor as the highest Test chase score at Sabina Park was 212. by West Indies over Sri. Lanka in 2003.
