Hezbollah fires rockets into Israel after IDF hits Hezbollah facilities

Hezbollah fired dozens of missiles and other projectiles at Israel on Sunday in response to IDF strikes on the group’s command centers in Beirut.

Israel’s military said Hezbollah fired 250 rockets and other explosives on Sunday, and some were intercepted – marking one of the group’s heaviest attacks in months. Some rockets hit the Tel Aviv area in the heart of Israel.

Meanwhile, an Israeli strike on a military base killed a Lebanese soldier and wounded 18 in the southwest, the Lebanese army said. The Israeli military said the strike took place in an area where the fighting was with Hezbollah and that the military operation was aimed directly at terrorists.

Israeli warplanes also raided central Beirut on Saturday, killing at least 29 people and injuring 67, according to Lebanon’s Ministry of Health.

Smoke billows over Beirut again on Sunday with new strikes. Israel’s military said it targeted Hezbollah facilities and intelligence units in areas south of Dahiyeh, where militants are concentrated.

Hezbollah began firing rockets, missiles and drones into Israel after Hamas attacked on October 7, 2023, outside the Gaza Strip and the war there began. Hezbollah described the attack as an act of solidarity with the Palestinians and Hamas. Iran supports both armed groups.

Israel launched retaliatory airstrikes against Hezbollah, and in September a low-level skirmish erupted into a full-scale war as Israel launched airstrikes across large parts of Lebanon and killed Hezbollah’s top leader, Hassan Nasrallah.

Israeli attacks have killed more than 3,700 people in Lebanon, according to the Ministry of Health. The war has displaced an estimated 1.2 million people, or a quarter of Lebanon’s population.

On the Israeli side, about 90 soldiers and nearly 50 civilians were killed in bombings in northern Israel and in the fighting that followed Israel’s ground attack in early October. About 60,000 Israelis were expelled from the north of the country.

Israeli strikes have killed more than 40 Lebanese soldiers since the start of the war between Israel and Hezbollah, as the Lebanese army has remained on the sidelines.

Lebanon’s acting prime minister, Najib Mikati, condemned the latest strike as an attack on US-led ceasefire efforts, calling it a “direct, bloody message that rejects all efforts and ongoing engagement” to end the war.
