Diddy’s Prosecutors Claim Cassie’s Video Was Edited
Prosecutors hope to keep Sean “Diddy” Combs after the alleged arrests of a video showing a rap artist allegedly beating him Cassie was arranged.
Us Weekly was in New York City court on Friday, November 22, when prosecutors said a 2016 video first released by CNN shows Diddy, 55, is a violent abuser who is a danger to society.
Prosecutors also stated in court that there is no dispute as to what actually happened in the video. They also pointed to Diddy publicly acknowledging the video on Instagram.
On May 19, Diddy talked about a video showing him shoving and kicking his ex-girlfriend.
“It’s so hard to think about the darkest times in your life,” he said in an Instagram video without naming Cassie, 38. “Sometimes you have to do that. I was f-ed up. I mean I’m down but I’m not making excuses. My behavior in that video it is inexcusable. I take full responsibility for my actions in that video.”
“Disgusted. I was disgusted when I did it, I am disgusted now,” he continued. “I went to seek professional help, to therapy, to rehab. I had to ask God for mercy and grace. I am very sorry, but I am determined to be a better man. Every day.”
A day before the trial, Diddy’s lawyers argued that prosecutors used a “false version” of the video.
The attorney insisted that the video does not show “swearing,” but rather a domestic dispute where Diddy ran down the hotel hall to retrieve his clothes and cell phone.
“The full details of the incident – unlike the government’s CNN cut – contradict the government’s rhetoric,” the defense attorney said. Alexandra Shapiro he wrote in court documents obtained by ABC News. “[T]the video that the government sent to the Court omits the videos that corroborate the defendants’ account, changes the sequence of events with material, and does not portray the events properly.”
In court on Friday, the attorneys also pointed out that Diddy and Cassie’s relationship included “a pattern of reprehensible behavior on both sides” and added, “This was a toxic, passionate, 11-year relationship.”
Us Weekly has contacted Cassie’s team for comment.
In November 2023, Cassie settled a lawsuit accusing Diddy of sexual harassment and assault. Meanwhile, Diddy’s lawyer, Ben Brafmanhe said that the compensation does not prove that Diddy is guilty.
This week, Diddy’s lawyers plan to continue their campaign to have their client released on $50 million bail as he awaits trial on sex trafficking and racketeering charges. (Diddy denies all allegations.)
US District Judge Arun Subramanian he is expected to issue a bail decision in the coming days.
