An illegal immigrant with an extensive criminal record was arrested for attempted rape days after being released from prison
An illegal immigrant with a long criminal record has been arrested for attempting to kidnap and rape a stranger he filmed on a popular Virginia highway after being released from prison, according to police.
During a press conference on Monday evening, the Herndon Police Department announced that Denis Humberto Naverrette Romero, 31, was charged with kidnapping for the purpose of defiling and raping a stranger.
“Let me start by saying that I am incredibly saddened and outraged that a crime like this could happen here in the city of Herndon,” said Herndon Police Chief Maggie DeBoard.
“This is the only incident of rape by strangers in this city in more than 12 years that I have been a police chief,” continued DeBoard.

Romero, who is of Honduran descent, has a documented history of sexual harassment and indecent exposure in the region dating back to 2022, according to DeBoard.
A source close to the matter told Fox News Digital that Romero is homeless and has been out of prison, but has never served any significant time. He was also dropped from many charges by prosecutors, the source explained.
Romero’s crimes ranged from weapons and car theft, to indecent exposure and sexual harassment, to kidnapping and rape.

“This type of crime not only affects the victim directly, but affects our entire community, especially when it happens in a public place that we consider safe and that is used by all our residents and visitors to our community every day. .”
Shortly before 9 p.m. Monday, DeBoard said police responded to W on D for a call about a woman who went to the neighborhood and asked for help, saying she had been raped.
The victim told police that Romero grabbed her by force and forced her to the ground where he continued to rape her.
Thankfully, the victim was able to fight off Romero and run away to get help. Police were able to locate Romero shortly after the attack.

After further investigation, officials uncovered his criminal history and believe there may be more victims and additional witnesses at his trial Monday night.
“What is disturbing is how many times this person has been arrested and then released. He has continued to repeat and his behavior has gone to the point of rape in a public place in our city last night,” said DeBoard.
Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin also shared a statement about the incident and is angry that local officials allowed Romero back on the streets.
“I am saddened by this victim and outraged that local officials in Fairfax County are recklessly releasing violent illegal immigrants who should be prosecuted and deported. This is an affront to their basic job of keeping people safe,” Youngkin said in a post to X.
“Prioritizing violent illegal immigrants over the safety of the citizens of Fairfax is unacceptable. Virginia is not a sanctuary state. When President Trump takes office, the political deadlock will end, and states will work with ICE to protect Virginians.”
Romero is currently in the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he is being held without bond.
