Marjorie Taylor Greene laid out DOGE’s plan to investigate government spending
Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., on Sunday said leaders of sanctuary states and cities should explain why they qualify for federal dollars to a Congressional subcommittee that aims to cut government waste.
Greene, who was appointed to lead a subcommittee working with Elon Musk and the Department of Government Operations led by Vivek Ramaswamy (DOGE), revealed that he hopes to reduce government spending during an appearance on “Sunday Morning Futures.”
Another area Greene said he wants a subcommittee to investigate is related to the immigration issue.
“I would like to talk to governors of sanctuary states and mayors of sanctuary cities and have them come before our committee and explain why they deserve government dollars if they are going to harbor illegal criminals in their states and cities,” he said.

Greene specifically noted the death of Laken Riley, a 22-year-old nursing student who was brutally murdered while jogging on the University of Georgia campus in Athens in February. Jose Ibarra, an illegal immigrant from Venezuela, has been convicted of murder. Ibarra was offered a “relief flight” from New York City to Atlanta in September 2023.
Greene also laid out a number of other areas that could face problems under the subcommittee’s plan to cut government spending.
“The way to do that is to cut programs, contracts, workers, grant programs, you name it, that are failing the American people and not serving the needs of the American people,” Greene said.
Congress said government-sponsored media programs like NPR, which it said “broadcast nothing but Democrat propaganda,” would be under the subcommittee’s microscope.

He also said that they will investigate the contracts and government programs that are in effect to see if they “make sense” or “their purpose is outdated.”
Greene said government workers have been working remotely since the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic – which has forced many of all workers, both in the public and private sectors, to work from home.
“We looked at many – we have thousands – of buildings that the federal government owns and pays for over $15 billion a year, and yet those government buildings were empty and these government workers were living at home.”
Greene called these points a “failure” in public service for the American people.

“And we don’t care about people’s feelings,” said Green. “We’re going to look at the facts and we’re going to be making sure that this is a worthwhile use of America’s hard-earned tax dollars.”
