2024 CMA Awards viewers unhappy with Toby Keith’s honor: ‘He deserves better’
Fans are voicing their disgust at the 2024 CMA Awards following what they feel is a sloppy tribute to the late country music legend Toby Keith.
The hosts of the 2024 Country Music Awards, Luke Bryan, Lainey Wilson and Peyton Manning, raised the red Solo Cup as a nod to Keith’s famous song, “Red Solo Cup,” and spoke briefly in honor of the late country star.
“We want to take a moment to make a good Toby Keith,” Bryan said. “A great singer, a great American, and a great country music icon.”

“Toby, you will be missed my friend,” Bryan concluded.
A crowd of A-list country stars, including “Gunpowder & Lead” singer Miranda Lambert and album of the year recipient Cody Johnson, raised their glasses and plastic cups to wild cheers.
“Toby had the best bar songs,” Wison said, referencing the aforementioned “I Love This Bar,” before introducing “A Bar Song” singer, Shaboozey.
Fans have expressed their displeasure on social media for the show’s disrespect, which they feel does not deserve to honor the country’s famous and patriotic star.
