Republicans hold a slim majority in the House of Representatives, although the size of that narrow margin won’t be known until the final five undecided races are called.
The five House races that have not been called as of Wednesday morning are in Alaska, California, Iowa and Ohio. The balance of power currently sits at 218 seats for Republicans, and 212 for Democrats.
Alaska
A large district
In charge of democracy Attorney Mary Sattler Peltola is in a tight race in the state of Alaska, where he is trailing Republican businessman Nick Begich.
As of Wednesday morning, Begich held a slightly more than 2-point lead with 48.6% of the vote compared to Peltola’s 46.2%. The number of votes stands at 157,331 to 149,763 with 99% of votes counted.

California
13th Congressional District
Republican Rep. John Duarte leads former Democratic state assemblyman Adam Gray in California’s 13th District, but the hotly contested race has not been called as of Wednesday morning.
About 96% of the votes were counted, with Duarte trailing by 50.1% to 49.9%. The two candidates were separated by only 227 votes.
45th Congressional District
Democratic challenger Derek Tran led the way for Republican Rep. Michelle Steel in the 45th district. Steel had been leading by a few hundred votes late last week, but Tran now has a 314-vote lead.
About 97% of the votes were counted in the district.

Iowa
1st Congressional District
Rep. Republican incumbent Marianne Miller-Meeks held less than 1% of challenger Christina Bohannan with 99% of the vote counted. Miller-Meeks’ lead sits at just over 800 votes.

Bohannan asked for a recount in his bid to acquit Miller-Meeks. The Associated Press has not called the race because the margin was close enough to warrant a recount. Miller-Meeks has declared himself the winner and said he is confident in his lead.
In Ohio
9th Congressional District
Democratic incumbent Marcy Kaptur leads her Republican challenger, Derek Merrin, by less than half a point with 99% of the votes counted. Kaptur’s lead sits at just 833 votes with 99% of votes counted as of Wednesday morning.
